At a private\u00a0tasting of some of the new small bites on the menu we got the chance to\u00a0chat with Detroit native McClain and his executive chef Jamaal\u00a0Taherzadeh about the restaurant which is totally different from his\u00a0marvelous Sage restaurant, also in Las Vegas.\u00a0\u201cLibertine Social is all about the food, the drinks and the party.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/spiritsman.com\/archives\/4592\/imgres-32-3\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4597\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4597\" src=\"http:\/\/spiritsman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/imgres-32.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We\u00a0want this to be a playground for people to explore similar dishes\u00a0and cocktails with edgy and unexpected flavors in an energetic\u00a0environment that invites them to share those moments with others,\u2019\u2019\u00a0said McClain. Libertine Social is a high energy gastro pub fronted\u00a0by a James Beard award winning chef who has partnered up with\u00a0a famous mixologist\/bartender in the shape of Tony Abou-Gannim,\u00a0who wrote the definitive book on vodka called \u2018Vodka Distilled.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/spiritsman.com\/archives\/4592\/imgres-34-3\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4599\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4599\" src=\"http:\/\/spiritsman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/imgres-34.jpeg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/spiritsman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/imgres-34.jpeg 200w, http:\/\/spiritsman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/imgres-34-150x150.jpeg 150w\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The space itself is wide open so people strolling by at the hotel can\u00a0easily see the vibe at the restaurant which was designed by\u00a0Alessandro Munge with a comparison to some of the spaces on\u00a0Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, California. There is also an\u00a0outdoor patio with a view of the beach at Mandalay Bay, and also\u00a0a chef\u2019s table with exposed grills and prep tables for the guests to\u00a0feel like part of the action.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to the food, I only tried a handful of the dishes on the menu\u00a0but they included mainly small bites like the \u2018Parmesan Churros\u2019 with lightly\u00a0fried dough is coated with parmesan, and of course the \u2018Modern Fried Egg,\u2019\u00a0summer corn topped with a whipped egg and American Sturgeon caviar in\u00a0an eggshell, and served with a toasted brioche.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/spiritsman.com\/archives\/4592\/imgres-29-2\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4595\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4595\" src=\"http:\/\/spiritsman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/imgres-29.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"370\" height=\"256\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Needless to say I must go back and try the chef\u2019s Sausage Board, where his\u00a0homemade artisanal sausages are paired with creamy cheeses and other sides\u00a0such as Tipperary cheddar, Rouge Creamery Smokey blue cheese and\u00a0brillat savarin. Also tempting has to be the Duck Pastrami sandwich which\u00a0is served on golden brown toast and topped with pickled radicchio,\u00a0sauerkraut aioli and mustard seed,<\/p>\n<p>This is just a sampling of the wonderful savory dishes on offer here and\u00a0to top off any meal here you have to try his Margarita Donut and then\u00a0close out the evening with the Hot Chocolate Martini which covers a\u00a0warm chocolate ganache cake with a rich vanilla bean infused amaretto\u00a0glaze.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/spiritsman.com\/archives\/4592\/imgres-33-2\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4598\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4598\" src=\"http:\/\/spiritsman.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/imgres-33.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"249\" height=\"202\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The cocktail department of the restaurant is a whole story in itself, and\u00a0while Tony A is well known for his vodka expertise, I was pleased to try\u00a0one of his rum libations. The Summertime Swizzle is one of five that\u00a0he has created based on the swizzle stick fashioned from a Quararibea\u00a0turbinate tree. They all come in pitchers good for four or five drinks\u00a0and I believe I tried the Queens Park Swizzle made with 15-year old\u00a0El Dorado rum. We followed that with his version of the Mint Julep\u00a0with Bourbon.<\/p>\n<p>There are two drinking areas at Libertine Social with the Main bar\u00a0and the Arcade Bar, the latter being a private area tucked away that features\u00a0cocktails from the 19<sup>th<\/sup> and 20<sup>th<\/sup>centuries that have been forgotten. These will\u00a0include the Daisy, the Smash and the Flip.
