He opened Turning Fire in November 2016, and was\u00a0immediately faced with about three months of rain and cold\u00a0weather and an election season that frankly the folks in Eagle Rock\u00a0were not expecting.\u00a0The room is very clean and spacious with the lighting just about\u00a0perfect. All the tables and chairs are wood and there is plenty of\u00a0parking out back.<\/p>\n<p>All the food here is made in house as well as the in-house spices,\u00a0and they are particularly good on the Roasted White Yams which\u00a0is also helped by the cracked peppers and herbs. The salads here\u00a0are impressive, especially the Marrakech, an homage to Moroccan\u00a0cuisine w\/goat cheese, beets, faro, basil, cilantro, roasted minted\u00a0carrots (excellent), kalamato olives, grilled scallions, paprika\u00a0lavash chips, spiced pistachios all topped off with a harissa\u00a0dressing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He has soldiered on however catering for the regulars who he also\u00a0admits usually go for the same thing on their rather eclectic menu\u00a0spearheaded by their well received Rotisserie Chicken. That includes\u00a0the Jamaican Jerked Chicken that is augmented by the sweet-heat\u00a0jerked spice, citrus and clove. Lemon Lavender Chicken has a\u00a0lavender spice rub, thyme and herbs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/perfectmealtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/imgres-35.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1699\" src=\"http:\/\/perfectmealtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/imgres-35.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I felt like pork on my visit that night and went for the Braised\u00a0Calabrian Pork which is slow braised with tomatoes, orange peel,\u00a0Calabrian chile,peppers and olives. I also liked the pork and beef\u00a0Meatballs served with ricotta, basil and grilled ciabatta\u00a0toast. Ciabatta is the only bread served at Turning Fire incidentally.\u00a0Roman Spiced Pork is hand stacked with Italian herbs, toasted\u00a0fennel seed and garlic, but despite that it still seemed a little dry to\u00a0me.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/perfectmealtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/imgres-36.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1700\" src=\"http:\/\/perfectmealtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/imgres-36.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/perfectmealtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/imgres-36.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/perfectmealtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/imgres-36-150x150.jpeg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They have an item here called LA Street Fries ($10) which by all accounts\u00a0are a popular item, but not for this writer. Too much of a reach with\u00a0grilled chile corn, pickled red onion, cotija cheese crumble, grilled\u00a0scallions and a thick creamy cilantro lime.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/perfectmealtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/180s.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1701\" src=\"http:\/\/perfectmealtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/180s.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/perfectmealtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/180s.jpeg 180w, https:\/\/perfectmealtoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/180s-150x150.jpeg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The wine list is super small and features ones from San Antonio or\u00a0wines that they distribute.
