BAKERY WITH A PASSION
(For Providing the Freshest, Highest Quality Handcrafted Foods)
By Kay Schroeder
Laguna Hills,(Perfect Meal Today)1/17/15/–New on the South Orange County food scene as of March 2014 is Nana Fi’s Bakery and Café owned by Samira and Ronnie Givargis. Nana Fi’s is located next door to Trader Joe’s in the Oakbrook Village Shopping Center at 24321 Avenida De Carlota, Suite H8, Laguna Hills, CA 92653. This is a family owned and operated business that also owns the Sunrise Bakery near Fresno in Turlock, California.
After meeting and talking with the owners and staff members it was obvious they all shared the same passion for designing, preparing, and serving the freshest, highest quality handcrafted foods possible.
All of their food items are made fresh each day. Items not sold at the end of the day are donated to local senior centers/businesses.
Their talented cook Joe Saucedo makes a different homemade soup everyday. That’s Joe at the soup pot stirring his latest concoction.
The combined talents of Master Baker Andrew Le and Master Cake Decorator Chelsea Kiester have yielded the whimsical Football Cupcakes and the chocolate éclairs.
The éclairs are made from the recipe Ronnie’s mother Nana Fi created many years ago. All cupcakes are made with fresh butter cream (not commercially prepared mix) that Samira says produces a richer, fresher flavor.
The bakers will accommodate requests/orders for your favorite specialties, e.g., soccer, basketball, or other theme decorations. The chocolate cupcakes drizzled with ganache are as deliciously decadent as they are beautifully crafted.
Bakers are careful to make the pastries with just the right amount of sweetness so that they are not overly sweet.
Besides the impressive array of pastries, Nana Fi’s menu includes breakfast items, soups, hot/cold sandwiches, salads, and several gluten free foods such as scones, peanut butter fudge cookies, and chocolate raspberry mousse cake.
One of the most popular gluten free items is the white bread. Customers say that it has a lighter, fluffier texture than commonly found in other gluten free breads.
Manager, Peter Nissan takes time out of his busy morning to pose with Samira in the picture below.
The bakery has become a favorite hangout for the locals. Some of the reasons for this popularity have to do with the store itself. It is spacious and immaculately clean with an upscale design.
I checked out the restrooms and found them very clean and surprisingly large. Parking is ample and the music volume in the store is kept at a very comfortable level thus allowing customers to enjoy conversation with their companion(s). This is a definite improvement over many of the noisy chain coffee/café restaurants.
And last, but certainly not least is the Stumptown Coffee; it is cold brewed. The cold brewing process produces a superior tasting coffee that allows the customer to enjoy the coffee hot or cold without compromising flavor or brew strength.
I rate Nana Fi’s an A+; I bet you will too!
